Asymmetric flagellar movement in relation to the orientation of the spore of Blastocladiella emersonii.

چکیده
Although the random nature of the movement of some plant spermatozoa has been described (Wilkie, 1954; Brokaw, 1959) and the influences of concentration and voltage gradients on the movement have been discussed (Pfeffer, 1884; Brokaw, 1957, 1958 a, b, 1959), no account of the flagellar movement of this type of 01 ganism has been given. Two possible mechanisms which could be responsible for the turning of flagellated organisms in response to the presence of chemotactically active ions have been suggested. Re-orientation of an organism could be brought about by variation in the activity of the flagella (Hoyt, 1910; Metzner, 1926; Brokaw, 19586) or by the action of an electric field on ions absorbed on a region of the cell (Brokaw, 1958a). This paper records the results of a high-speed cine-photographic study of the movement of the spore of Blastocladiella emersonii with special reference to the turning movement. The results are discussed in the light of current hypotheses of flagellar wave propagation.

Characterization and Submitochondrial Localization of the a Subunit of the Mitochondrial Processing Peptidase from the Aquatic Fungus Blastocladiella emersonii
In an effort to investigate the molecular mechanisms responsible for the drastic morphological changes the mitochondria go through during the life cycle of the aquatic fungus Blastocladiella emersonii, the gene encoding the a subunit of the mitochondrial processing peptidase (a-MPP) was isolated. Nucleotide sequence analysis revealed that the predicted a-MPP polypeptide comprises 474 amino acid...

A 2.3-kb BamHI-KpnI fragment was isolated from a partial genomic library and shown by nucleotide sequence analysis to contain the entire coding region of the gene encoding the b subunit of the Blastocladiella mitochondrial processing peptidase (b-MPP). The predicted b-MPP protein has 465 amino acids and a calculated molecular mass of 50.8 kDa. S1 nuclease protection assays revealed an intron, 2...
متن کاملIonic control of germination of Blastocladiella emersonii zoospores.
Encystment and germination of Blastocladiella emersonii zoospores involve a rapid and radical transformation of the motile but nongrowing spore into a sessile, growing germling. Certain inorganic ions, notably 50 mM KCl, are efficient inducers of germination. By use of the carbocyanine dye DiO-C6-(3), we found that KCl depolarizes the plasma membrane of zoospores and noted good correlation betw...

The zoospores of Blastocladiella emersonii posses three ribonucleic acid polymerases. No general or specific inhibitor for the enzymes were found in the protoplasm of the spores.

region of the genes, denominated HAIR (HspR associated inverted repeat). For these studies we will construct a null mutant in gen CC0081, whose phenotype will be analyzed with respect to different kinds of environmental stresses. Another objective of this project deals with the characterization of 5 ECF (extracytoplasmic function) sigma factors from Caulobacter: SigF, SigU, SigT, SigE and SigR....
